Jennifer Warren

Jennifer Warren makes paintings that transform the ordinary into charged sites of perception, humor, and psychological tension. Working primarily in oil, she moves between observation and invention, drawing from still life, portraiture, landscape, and the material language of domestic life. Found objects, textiles, and mixed media enter the work not as embellishment, but as disruptions, extending the painted surface into a space where image, memory, and objecthood collide.

Warren’s practice is animated by wit, appropriation, and a sharp sensitivity to the strange theater of everyday experience. Her compositions often begin with recognizable forms: a room, a body, a meal, a landscape, then shift toward something more unstable and revealing. Nature, the built environment, and the female experience become recurring structures through which she examines intimacy, labor, desire, and the quiet absurdities of contemporary life.
Warren studied at the Leo Marchutz School of Fine Art in Aix-en-Provence, France, and holds a BA from Eckerd College. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Palazzo Bembo, Venice, in connection with the 60th Venice Biennale; the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago; Silos Gallery 200, Houston; Martin Gallery, Chicago; and Sidney Larson Gallery, Columbia, Missouri. She lives and works in Chicago.
