About the work
The Big Dipper symbolizes guidance, orientation, and destiny because its stars lead the eye toward the North Star, historically used by travelers to locate north and find their way. It therefore represents the moment when uncertainty becomes direction.
In this painting, the two people may have been searching together without knowing where their relationship or lives would lead. When they recognize the Big Dipper, they finally understand their path. The constellation is the celestial sign that they have found their direction and, through one another, found their destiny.
The empty chairs then represent departure. They have risen from the table and left the enclosed, familiar space to follow what the stars revealed. The object left behind suggests that an earlier chapter has ended. Above them, the seven stars form an enduring order: their destiny was always present, but they had to learn how to see it.
