Lawlessness
2026
Oil on canvas
55 1/10 × 47 1/5 in | 140 × 120 cm
About the work
What appears as moral conviction becomes a dangerous permission: the freedom to act without restraint, while others are left to inhabit the flames and ruins of that will.
Beneath the metal mask, the adult figure has become a vessel of endurance, shaped by a morality that no longer recognizes the human being before it. Beside them, the child with a lowered head bears an even more devastating silence.
To deny the law is to reject the fragile structure that protects against power imbalance. In this painting, the figure’s silence already has judgment. The ruins speak for themselves.
Included in LIHAO: The Individual Under Pressure.
