The Gospel of Cypress
2026
Oil on canvas
60 × 60 cm / 23.6 × 23.6 in
About the work
Cypress trees have long symbolized endurance, adaptation, and the passage of deep time. Growing directly from floodwaters, they root themselves within uncertainty, inhabiting the unstable boundary between land and water. Some live for centuries, standing as witnesses to generations of life and change.
In the Gospel of Cypress, the trees become guardians of timeless wisdom: survival is achieved through adaptation. The cat, meanwhile, has interpreted this wisdom with her creative freedom and now seems to believe she might one day become a fish and swim among the cypress.
