About the work
From the cat:
“I’ve learned that dissociation has its moments of grace. I’ve seen her use it. When the world outside blazes too bright, she withdraws, eyes fixed on nothing. It keeps her from feeling everything at once when reality grows unbearable.
It's her mind's emergency brake.
Soldiers in battle, doctors in trauma wards, and artists drowning in grief all depend on small doses of it. It keeps them moving when panic would otherwise pull them under."
