Becoming III

In Tianhao’s Becoming series, the first painting shows the figure stepping out from a lush summer world, leaving behind a glowing tent and carrying a lantern into the unknown. Becoming II brings him into a harsher stage of transformation, where the sea is violent, the lighthouse has failed, and he must learn to create direction from within himself. By Becoming III, winter has arrived. The trees are bare, the ground is frozen, and the landscape appears inhospitable, yet the figure does not seem cold or afraid. He sits outside the tent in quiet reflection, fully exposed to the season.

His calmness reveals the depth of his growth. The world has not become easier; it is colder and more desolate than before. What has changed is him. He no longer depends on shelter, certainty, or constant movement to feel secure. The warmth surrounding him seems to radiate from the inner life he has built through hardship, softening the frozen landscape around him.

Becoming III suggests that growth does not prevent winter from arriving. It gives us the resilience, wisdom, and inner warmth to endure it without losing ourselves.
